Alan Shearer claims Bruno Fernandes looks ‘HAPPIER’ with Cristiano Ronaldo not playing

‘Am I stirring things up?’: Alan Shearer claims Bruno Fernandes looks ‘HAPPIER’ on the Manchester United squad with Cristiano Ronaldo not playing as the midfielder puts on a show in the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Tottenham

Alan Shearer has insisted Bruno Fernandes looks ‘happier’ on the pitch when Cristiano Ronaldo is not playing.

The midfielder scored a fine second goal as Manchester United defeated Tottenham 2-0 in the Premier League, before Ronaldo stormed into the tunnel before the end of the game as an unused substitute.

Speaking on commentary for Amazon Prime Video, Shearer said Fernandes has “done so much” for United in the game, praising the Portugal international’s performance without Ronaldo.

“Would I be thrilled to say Bruno looks happier on this team without Ronaldo?” Shearer said.

“I just look at his performance tonight and his energy and look at his leadership and the qualities he has provided both defensively and offensively and he has done so much for them in this performance tonight. He deserved that goal.’

Bruno’s form has fallen dramatically since Ronaldo joined the club last summer, with his Portuguese counterpart more than once proving to be the center of attention at United.

Fernandes took Shearer’s ‘Player of the Match’ award after a great second goal

But Shearer gave the 28-year-old his ‘Player of the Match’ award for the game, before Fernandes insisted he’s willing to be less involved if the team performs better.

“I don’t like being the protagonist because some players need that status,” Fernandes said.

“I have to work hard, it’s been my way of playing since I was a kid. I won’t say I’m “Man of the Match”!

“I understand my position, when some players are on the pitch I understand that and I have no problem sacrificing myself to get the best out of my teammates.”

Erik ten Hag said he will ‘handle the matter’ tomorrow after Ronaldo left before the whistle

Ronaldo struggled for minutes under Erik ten Hag this season and left his position on the substitution bench early on due to much controversy.

Ten Hag has insisted that he will tackle the attacker and has made it clear that he wants to focus on the team’s performance after the game.

He said, ‘I have seen him, but I have not spoken to him. I’ll work on that tomorrow, not today. We celebrate this victory.

‘I’m not paying attention today. I’ll deal with it tomorrow. I want to keep the focus on the team and a great performance from all 11 players and the substitutes. It was a team performance.’
