Tensions boiled over late in Alabama’s shocking loss to Vanderbilt, and defensive back Malachi Moore collapsed as the game slipped away.
The unranked Commodores earned a historic 40-35 victory over the Crimson Tide. It was the school’s first victory over a number one ranked team in history.
Vanderbilt fans celebrated by tearing down the goal posts and throwing them into a river. Meanwhile, Moore struggled to contain his frustration as Alabama suffered its first loss of the season.
With barely a minute left, he could be seen removing his mouthguard and throwing it across the field while Vanderbilt wound the clock.
The 23-year-old could then be seen screaming in frustration even as the game unfolded around him.
Alabama star Malachi Moore suffered an epic meltdown during Saturday’s loss to Vanderbilt.
Moore, Alabama’s No. 13, kicked the ball and smashed an opponent’s head into the turf.
Moments later, after Vanderbilt took a knee, officials spotted the ball near the halfway mark. Moore then stepped in and kicked him, prompting an immediate flag.
Another clip, which appeared online after the game, showed the safety slamming Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia’s head into the turf after a tackle.
Moore could be seen grabbing Pavia’s mask and pulling his opponent’s head back. The images sparked violent reactions among college football fans on social media.
The 40-35 loss was the first loss for new Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer (pictured).
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a draft prospect destroy all of their stock while taking a knee, but if Malachi Moore dreamed of being drafted, he should go ahead and plan a funeral, they’re dead and gone now,” one fan wrote.
“Pure grad student leadership here,” another added.
Some even used Moore’s collapse to suggest that standards had dropped in Tuscaloosa since legendary coach Nick Saban was replaced by Kalen DeBoer earlier this year.
“Malachi Moore wouldn’t have a morning locker if Saban was the head coach,” one social media user wrote.
