Sawyer Stephen Campbell, 21, was killed Sunday while parachuting from 10,000 feet over eastern Alabama, authorities said.
A student at Auburn University was killed because he had trouble opening his parachute while parachuting from 10,000 feet over eastern Alabama, officials said.
Tuskegee Police Chief Marquez James says Sawyer Stephen Campbell, 21, died Sunday afternoon during a jump at the Tuskegee Municipal Airport.
James says that Campbell had trouble opening his parachute on his second jump of the day.
The Federal Aviation Administration was notified, and the accident is being treated as a death investigation.
Campbell was a third-year student at the University of Auburn, according to WSFA-TV.
He graduated from Huntsville High School and was an avid diver and parachutist.
A close friend of Campbell of Huntsville, Haden Wilkinson, posted a message on his Facebook page regretting the loss, writing that "I would not want to go anywhere else."
"I lost my best friend yesterday," Wilkinson wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.
