A student at Auburn University was killed because he had trouble opening his parachute while parachuting from 10,000 feet over eastern Alabama, officials said.

Tuskegee Police Chief Marquez James says Sawyer Stephen Campbell, 21, died Sunday afternoon during a jump at the Tuskegee Municipal Airport.

James says that Campbell had trouble opening his parachute on his second jump of the day.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified, and the accident is being treated as a death investigation.

Campbell was a third-year student at the University of Auburn, according to WSFA-TV.

He graduated from Huntsville High School and was an avid diver and parachutist.

A close friend of Campbell of Huntsville, Haden Wilkinson, posted a message on his Facebook page regretting the loss, writing that "I would not want to go anywhere else."

& # 39;[He was the] [m]the most loyal, loving and loving man I have ever met. You took the fun side of me every time I was with you and you got me into more trouble than I ever wanted to.

& # 39; Without you, I can honestly say that growing up would not have been a memorable experience.

"There was never a dull moment in your presence.

"Every memory I have as I grow up, and many in college, includes this nonsense.

"He told me many times that he would not want to go any other way.

"I used to walk in the trailer almost every day watching Jeb Corliss and other guys parachuting.

& # 39; Skydiving brought you life, happiness and peace.

"I can not name a person who parachutes, dives, flies on motorcycles, has jumped base, and can lift as much as a competitive power lifter.
