Strobel made his acting debut in the 1986 thriller film Shadow Play, starring Dee Wallace and Cloris Leachman.

He was cast as Philip Michael Gerard aka Mike aka The One-Armed Man in Twin Peaks which debuted in 1989.

Mike was a traveling shoe salesman who – like the show’s villain, Bob (Frank Silva) – was inhabited by a ghost that would make him commit despicable acts.

However, unlike Bob, Mike had a spiritual awakening and attempted to repent for his misdeeds, cutting off his own arm which had a tattoo that read Fire Walk With Me – indicating he had been touched by ‘The devilish one ‘.

He spent several years tracking Bob down on the series, often appearing in strange dream sequences with Kyle MacLachlan’s Agent Cooper.

Strobel appeared in both seasons of the original series along with the 1992 film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, the 2014 film Twin Peaks: Missing Pieces before his final role in the 2017 Showtime series.

He also appeared in films such as 1990’s Sitting Target and Megaville, Ricochet River and the TV movie Child of Darkness, Child of Light.

Some of his Twin Peaks staff paid tribute to Strobel, with the show’s co-creator Mark Frost tweeting, “Oh no…Dear Al…if those of you lucky enough to have seen him through the years what a warm and wonderful gentleman he was . RIP, friend.’

Dana Ashbrook, who played Bobby Briggs on the series, added, “Sad, sad news… love Al. He was the sweetest of all men.’

Producer Harley Peyton added: ‘As authentic an actor as I have ever met. So exactly so real. REST IN PEACE. Already.’
