The Today show’s Al Roker has shared his secret to staying fit and healthy months after opening up about battling a food addiction “like no other”.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com on Tuesday night at the network’s Start Today special event in honor of the launch of its new health and wellbeing app, the 70-year-old weather presenter revealed he is committed to walking.

Al revealed that he aims to walk more than 10,000 steps every day, and that he even gets up earlier to make sure he’s on track to achieve his goal.

‘I try not to go crazy. I just like to work on things,” he said. “That’s why I like to walk.”

Al continued: ‘You can walk to other things to do things.

‘I mean, I was running a little behind, but normally I would have walked to the subway.

‘I would have walked to the subway from home and walked here. Today I took 15,000 steps.”

Explaining how he manages to achieve his daily goal, Al said: ‘I get up in the morning and try to do a mile before I go to work on a treadmill.

‘Today I had a doctor’s appointment, so I walked to the doctor, went back to work and walked home. In the building I have a desk with a treadmill.

Al’s motto is “something is better than nothing.”

In November, Al opened up about the reality of battling food addiction and admitted that he doesn’t “judge anyone” who turns to weight loss medications like Ozempic to lose weight.

‘I’m not going to judge anyone.

‘Listen, it’s not like any other addiction or dependency.

“You can live without alcohol, you can live without cigarettes, whatever your drug of choice is… but you have to eat, so for some people it’s just difficult,” he said.

“If this is what works for them, I mean, who are we to say, ‘Oh, don’t do that.'”

‘As long as it’s safe and effective, good for you. “I think everyone’s journey is their journey.”

Al underwent gastric bypass in 2002 after his weight reached 340 pounds.

The weather presenter’s admission about his love of walking comes as the Today show launches its new health and wellbeing app, Start Today.

The app is packed with weekly and monthly fitness challenges, personalized meal plans from registered dietitians, and daily inspiration and wellness tips from leading experts.

Users can easily track their progress, create shopping and grocery lists, and save recipes and meal plans.
