He explained that he had not looked at the back of the phone case when he turned it over.

“I didn’t even look at it until social media told me what was on my phone,” he said. “And I looked and said, ‘Oh, that’s Shrek.'”

When asked why he still had the briefcase, the Godfather star replied indignantly, “Sure, it was a gift,” he replied.

Al ended up playing Detective Lieutenant Hanna while De Niro took on the role of ruthless bank robber Neil McCauley.

“Bob said, ‘Let’s not rehearse. Let’s learn it somehow and at the same time, when we show up, just walk through it a little bit and then shoot,'” Pacino explained. “It really worked.”

De Niro said he thought they could finish the series in just five or six, but Pacino insisted it was more than that.

When asked about a rumor that the couple hadn’t shot the series together, both stars just laughed at the idea.

Heat marked De Niro and Pacino’s first time on screen together. Although they both appeared in the Godfather Part II, for which De Niro won his first Oscar, they never shared the screen.

Since the film’s release, the couple has starred in two other films together: the 2008 film Righteous Kill and The Irishman which came out in 2019.
