Liverpool assistant manager Pep Ljinders could reportedly be handed a major head coaching job this summer and Ajax are reportedly considering him for the role.

Lijnders will leave Anfield along with Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season as the Reds prepare for a staff overhaul and are being targeted by the Dutch giants looking for another permanent manager.

John van’t Schip currently fills the role on an interim basis and has helped turn around a terrible first half of the season which saw Ajax flirt with the relegation spots before recovering.

The club’s former midfielder will move into a “managerial role” role in July with the addition of a new head coach.

A new permanent appointment will be made at the end of the season and Ajax believe the Liverpool assistant could be the person to lead them to renewed glories, it has been reported. The times.

Lijnders has previously set out his ambitions to take over as boss of the bench and will meet former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson in Amsterdam if appointed.

The 46-year-old previously left Liverpool to spend a season at Dutch second division side NEC before returning to England and continuing to achieve success alongside Klopp.

The Dutchman joined Liverpool as an academy coach a decade ago before becoming the club’s first-team development coach, where he began working alongside Klopp.

The Dutchman has previously made no secret of his ambitions to land a senior management position.

Lijnders could return to his homeland to take the reins at Ajax and bring in other Liverpool staff, along with fellow assistant Peter Krawietz and development coach Vitor Matos.

Ajax are believed to have placed Lijnders as a favorite on their coaching shortlist, with other future coaches in Europe also being considered.

His assistance has helped the Reds win their first Premier League title along with the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Club World Cup.

The 36-time Eredivisie champions have appointed five different coaches in permanent and interim positions since Erik ten Hag left for Manchester United two years ago.
