Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Westling, a military assistant to Joe Biden in the United States Air Force, had quite a holiday weekend, with a dueling series of duties that kept him skipping.

Westling, who has been assigned to the White House military office, wore the nuclear codes on Friday during the president’s trip to Camp David and played the Easter bunny on the balcony of South Portico on Monday.

The graduate of the United States Air Force Academy wore the 45-pound. briefcase known as ‘the football’ on Marine One on Friday when Joe and Jill Biden left to spend the Easter weekend at Camp David.

The suitcase contains the president’s nuclear codes and travels with the commander-in-chief wherever he goes. The suitcase allows the president to authorize the use of the country’s nuclear weapons at any time.

Westling played the Easter Bunny on Monday when the Bidens appeared on the balcony of South Portico to celebrate the holiday, the White House said.

He put a maroon face mask over his nose and whiskers as he joined the first pair for President Biden’s Easter remarks.

Jill Biden picked a tulip from the balcony railing array and handed it to him.

The White House Military Office provides a variety of services, including military support for White House functions, including food service, presidential transportation, medical and emergency medical services, and hospitality.

One of the many duties is for a military assistant to serve the president his or her meals and carry the commander’s ‘go bag’ – a package containing all the personal items the president needs during his travels.

The office runs Marine One and Air Force One. It is also in charge of the White House Communications Agency, Presidential Airlift Group, White House Medical Unit, and Camp David.

Westling was one of two bunnies spotted at the White House on Monday, the day traditionally marked by the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. This year’s event has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The White House hopped with a female rabbit racing through the West Wing to deliver treats to both staff and media – and even took the stage at Jen Psaki’s daily press conference.

“We have a special guest,” Psaki announced as the Easter Bunny joined the briefing.

The rabbit was handing out commemorative Easter eggs and chocolates to the press.

White House staff tweeted photos of the second bunny placing Easter-themed cookies in the Oval Office and getting carrots for lunch.

The rabbit in question turned out to be Meghan Hays, Message Planning director for the White House.

Is this what they mean when they say “other duties as assigned” ?! So great to stop by @ PressSec’s briefing today. Happy Easter! She tweeted along with a photo of herself in habit, bunny head in hand.

Also, the rabbit costume in question was different from the one worn by Sean Spicer during the George W. Bush administration. When Spicer became the White House press secretary, social media was inundated with photos of him in the rabbit costume.

There are two rabbit costumes, the White House noted. Spicer wore a different suit than the rabbit that visited the Brady Press Briefing Room today. Indeed, there are longer eyelashes on the rabbit that visited the Briefing Room today.
