Comedian Mandel was the subject of growing concern among the TikTok community after watching millions of clips suggesting that he had been kidnapped after this video. User @baldiyadi said he refers to the letters ‘SOS in a triangle’ on the bag label ‘shoe material’

But Mandel told it Buzzfeed: ‘I am fine. If I was held captive – and I’ve never been detained before – I’d imagine they wouldn’t allow me on TikTok. ‘

The conspiracy theories started after Mandel posted a satirical video on July 3 about turning a brown paper bag into a shoe bag.

Mandel said the clip was his way of joking about locked hobbies like ‘making banana bread and ties’, but TikTok users quickly saw what they thought was a more sinister meaning behind the clip.

One, Emmy Hartman, told her followers in a video watched over three million times: “What does that mean? We have to help him. ‘

#SaveHowieMandel soon started trending after another TikTok user broke down his reasoning behind the kidnapping theory.

User @baldiyadi pointed to the location on Mandel’s sweater as where he is being held. She also said that he is referring to the letters ‘SOS in a triangle’ on the ‘shoe stuff’ bag label.

She then points to an unverified source who calls 55 and takes you to a helpline if she’s kidnapped, claiming Mandel’s ‘S’ looks like a 5.

After millions of people watched the video, Mandel informed his fans by telling them he was safe while dancing in what appears to be his house.

But that hasn’t satisfied a user of the viral video platform.

One of them said, “Who else didn’t believe the rumors until now.”
