There will be dancing the night away at the King’s coronation as Lionel Richie has been confirmed as one of the names taking center stage at the ceremony.

Pop singer Katy Perry and international opera star Andrea Bocelli were also signed up to take part in the event in Windsor Castle’s grounds, according to the BBC.

Other names revealed by the presenter yesterday include Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Tervill, and singer Freya Ridings who will perform a duet with producer and musician Alexis French.

Around 20,000 members of the public will attend the coronation on Sunday, 7 May, which will be broadcast on BBC1 and Radio 2 along with catch-up services.

According to the BBC, the concert will “celebrate a new chapter in the nation’s history” and will feature “themes of love, respect and optimism” with celebrations of the “Four Nations” and the Commonwealth.

It comes less than a year after the party marking Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, which featured music for the Queen, Duran Duran, and Diana Ross.

Half of Britons will watch the coronation

Most Britons claim they are not interested in a coronation – but nearly half the country is still planning to tune in to a coronation ceremony, a survey has revealed.

About 35 percent of the public say they “couldn’t care less” about the historic occasion on May 6, and 29 percent insist they “couldn’t care less at all”.

However, a YouGov poll of 3,000 adults found that 46 percent of the public planned to witness the coronation or participate in the accompanying festivities.

The results reflect past royal occasions. The streets of Windsor were crowded for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in 2018 despite a poll indicating two-thirds of Britons were ‘totally uninterested’.

But hopes of taking the entirety of this reunion with Robbie Williams were dashed as the band confirmed only Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen.

They said, “This will be our first live show since The Odyssey Tour, four years ago in 2019, and what a stage we’re back on!” Huge live band and orchestra, choir, military drums, backdrop of Windsor Castle and celebration of the new king. We can’t wait.

Barlow oversaw the 2012 party outside Buckingham Palace marking the late Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Lionel Richie, whose songs include Hello and All Night Long, became the first global ambassador for The Prince’s Trust in 2019.

“Sharing the stage with other artists at the coronation gala is a once-in-a-lifetime event that will be both an honor and a celebration,” he said.

The concert will be supported by a 70-piece orchestra and a ‘house band’ made up of mace bands from the Household Department and the Countess of Wessex String Orchestra.

There will also be support from the Coronation Choir – a variety of performers including sea shantytown singers, taxi drivers, growlers and reggae choirs.

Monuments and sites across the UK will also be lit up with lasers, drone displays and lighting.

“We have a world-class line-up of performers looking forward to what promises to be a very special night of celebration and entertainment,” said Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer.
