After a coma that lasted more than two decades, the death of an Israeli woman who was injured in an attack in 2001

Date:

In the attack, which was among the most violent during the second intifada, more than 120 people were wounded, including the American-born Hannah Nakenberg.

An Israeli woman wounded in a terrorist attack in 2001 was buried Thursday after spending more than two decades in a coma, according to footage broadcast on state television.

Hanna Nakhnenberg, who died on Wednesday, was 31 years old when she was injured in a suicide attack that targeted a pizzeria in central Jerusalem in August 2001, killing 15 people, including eight children.

More than 120 people were injured in the attack, which was among the most violent during the second intifada, including Nakenberg, who was born in the United States.

Nakenberg’s three-year-old girl survived the attack, which was later claimed by the Islamic Jihad Movement.

Isaac Nachenberg, the father of the deceased Israeli woman, confirmed on Wednesday, in a statement to the Israeli website “Ynet”, that his daughter never regained consciousness, and died after spending the last three weeks in a hospital in Tel Aviv.

“Our daughter passed away after a tournament that lasted 22 years,” he said.

In 2017, Jordan refused to extradite the United States, Ahlam Al-Tamimi, who holds Jordanian citizenship, for her involvement in the attack that killed two Americans.

Al-Tamimi was detained for eight years in Israel until she was released as part of a prisoner exchange in 2011 with the Hamas movement that controls the Gaza Strip.
