Geelong’s year has come to a close and the post-season celebrations have begun, with their stars getting into the Whacky Wednesday groove in hilarious fashion.
The Cats were defeated by the Brisbane Lions last Saturday, denying them a place in this weekend’s grand final, but they began their festivities in what has become an iconic post-season party among the football community due to the players’ creative outfits.
Gryan Miers stole the show as soccer superstar Lionel Messi last year, and the players have taken it to the next level this year with fun costumes.
Tanner Bruhn posed as Nine Footy journalist Sam McClure and held up a sign that read: “You won’t be elected, Mitch.”
Standing next to him were Mark Blicavs as West Coast’s Harley Reid and Max Holmes as Mitch Cleary, with the sign a reference to McClure’s bold call last year on his podcast with Cleary in which he claimed Reid would not be drafted by the Eagles.
In fact, Reid headed West and enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign with the club.
Holmes was later seen “interviewing” Tom Hawkins, who arrived dressed as Anthony Ammirati, the French pole vaulter who went viral at the Olympics after his manhood caught the bar as he attempted to jump over it.
Jeremy Cameron imitated Russell Coight while Ollie Henry and Sam De Koning arrived in a red Ferrari, a reference to Rush.
