Melbourne midfielder Christian Petracca has revealed he needs his girlfriend Bella to help him with basic everyday tasks after undergoing surgery for shocking injuries, including a spleen laceration.
The 28-year-old is recovering at home after surgery to repair four broken ribs, a punctured lung and a lacerated spleen, suffered in a marking contest during King’s Birthday’s defeat to Collingwood.
The soccer star is still in isolation due to the risk of infection, and only Bella and Petracca’s parents are allowed to visit him.
“I’m literally not allowed to do anything,” he said.
‘The spleen is a vital part of the immune system, so I had to get vaccinated again. Bell had to do everything: put me to bed, put my socks on, give me all my medications, make me dinner.
Christian Petracca has revealed that his injuries are so serious that he needs his girlfriend Bella to help him with basic tasks such as putting on his socks.
The Melbourne star remains isolated due to the risk of infection and only Bella and Petracca’s parents can visit him.
Petracca controversially returned to the field after being injured before being substituted permanently at half-time.
“I don’t think people understand when you’re playing, you just want to go out and compete as an athlete, as a competitor… you’re on adrenaline, you don’t really know what’s going on, if I had Now that I knew the seriousness of the problem, obviously I wouldn’t would have come out again,” Petracca explained on Monday.
“At that point, I thought and we thought it was a broken rib, a couple of broken ribs, (I) wanted to go out and play and compete.”
The 2021 Norm Smith medalist said Moore had stopped by to check on his condition several times since the weekend collision.
“I watched a bit of football at the weekend and had to turn it off. Even with a simple tackle, you put yourself back in the situation you were in. So, of course, at the moment the situation is quite raw,” he said.
“I’ll be able to go back to being the player I was, right now I have a lot of doubts, which is fine, it’s a natural feeling.”
Reports have also emerged that Petracca’s family are unhappy with the way the injury was handled, with AFL reporter Tom Morris explaining that the family has not been in agreement with the club.

“He revealed through his own account that he was out for the season before the club. It probably gives an idea of what he and his family were thinking,” Morris said on SEN.
‘Absolutely (they were upset) and frustrated at the club. I think it’s more what happened in the following days. “Certainly there was a feeling in the Petracca family that the club could have done things better.”
