AFL: Melbourne BLITZ Brisbane without their star captain Max Gawn

No Gawn, no problem! Melbourne BLITZ Brisbane without their star captain as Simon Goodwin’s squad returns from a three-match slump to send a resounding message to their premiership rivals

  • Melbourne beat Brisbane in their first-class clash at the MCG
  • The Demons were desperate to end their three-game slump on Thursday
  • Despite missing Max Gawn, Simon Goodwin’s side won by a whopping 64 points

Melbourne Demons put in a performance that defied their scorching streak of form as Simon Goodwin’s side provided the AFL with a timely reminder of why they are the best dogs with a dominant win over Brisbane.

The Demons entered the top game against the Lions on Thursday night and had to revive their season after a slump in which they lost three on the spin.

More worryingly, captain Max Gawn’s absence due to injury and off-field turmoil involving star defender Steven May, pundits and fans feared could derail the premiers’ season.

However, Melbourne has shown that they are still the team to beat in the MCG, beating the Lions with a 64-point win to send a resounding message to the rest of the league.
