Football legend Jason Dunstall says Sydney Swans chief executive Tom Harley has acted “a bit pretentious” with his complaint about a GWS Giants social media stunt.

This week, the Swans released footage of Isaac Heeney apologising sincerely to football fans after attempting to overturn his suspension.

AFL championship winner and football analyst Kane Cornes branded the video “garbage”.

“Isaac Heeney is under fire for this rubbish he posted on the internet,” Cornes told SEN Breakfast.

‘Isaac, you haven’t hurt your knee, you haven’t missed a shot on goal, after the siren in a major final, that hasn’t happened, you’re just suspended for a week,’ Cornes said.

‘We don’t need to thank the community; we don’t need the declaration that they will come back bigger and better than ever.

And GWS went one step further, putting star Toby Greene in front of the camera to poke fun at the Swans’ video.

“Hey guys, I’m obviously pretty gutted about getting another ticket over the weekend,” Greene says sarcastically.

‘I just wanted to come out here and give my sincere apologies to all Giants fans and the wider AFL community, along with my family.

‘What I can guarantee is that it won’t happen again. It will be difficult.

-And I promise to pay the fine myself.

“I will do everything I can to make this year special. Once again, thank you all for your support.”

While many football fans could see the funny side of Greene’s video, Sydney Swans chief executive Tom Harley was not one of them and was furious that it was “low quality”.

“I watched the Giants video and I’m not going to read it into anything, but (I thought it was) pretty vulgar,” Harley told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“Isaac is a champion of our club and a champion of the game, and if we’re talking about growing the game, a Newcastle lad raised on rugby league, I wouldn’t have done it.”

However, Hawthorn icon Dunstall believes Harley is taking things too seriously.

“Well, as we all know, I’m not a big fan of social media, but I think Tom Harley is being a bit pretentious,” he said on Fox Footy.

“I thought it was hilarious and a joke. We know there are much worse things on social media than a bit of fun and games like that.

‘I think it’s great that the two teams make fun of each other; it creates a rivalry that enhances the game.

‘Tom Harley said something about ‘growing the game’; well, to me that means growing it by building that rivalry.’

Kangaroos great David King sided with Dunstall.

“To me, this shows that Tom Harley spends too much time with John Longmire,” he said.

“It’s just a bit of fun. We’re in the entertainment industry. Let’s just laugh and move on.”
