After countless blows to the head throughout his playing days, AFL great Brendan Fevola decided to have a brain scan to see if there was any lasting damage, revealing the results on live radio.
Fevola, 42, said he was ‘scared’ to have an MRI on his brain after an illustrious and tough 204-game career for Carlton and Brisbane.
After several cases of brain damage among former players, including Gary Ablett Sr, were highlighted in the media, Fevola decided it was time to take the plunge and get checked out.
Fevola invited radiologist Dr. Richard Fleming to his radio show, Melbourne’s 101.9 The Fox breakfast show. Fifi, Fev and Nick to reveal the results on Thursday.
Fortunately for the father of four, scans did not reveal any visible damage to his brain.

“It’s a completely normal brain,” Dr. Fleming said. It should be a relief for him.
Fevola, who hasn’t been in the best of shape since his playing career, admitted that the good news took a big load off his shoulders.
“I was a little worried, Doctor,” Fevola said. “I hit my head quite a bit, but I was more worried that you’d find something else, like a tumor or something that wasn’t good.”
‘You know, when people get sick, they always go looking for something else and then they find that, and they end up dying from it. That’s what I feared.
Fevola then asked Dr. Fleming how good his brain looked.
‘Are you saying it’s a perfect brain?’ he said.
“It’s a perfect brain,” Fleming replied.
“We don’t need to talk anymore,” Fevola joked.

Fevola, who certainly hasn’t stayed in the best of shape after his playing career, admitted that the good news was a heavy burden on his mind.
