A dog owner has accused a Las Vegas pet grooming salon of animal abuse after her Maltese-Yorkshire terrier mix had to be put down after becoming paralyzed during a visit.

Makisha Davis claims her dog, Tuffy, was injured from the treatment he received at Lucky’s Pet Grooming and Boutique.

‘Now I can only imagine what could have happened to my dog. I’m thinking they hit her on the back or tried to force her to sit down. They did something to him,” Davis told KSLTV.

The four-year-old dog had been a customer for years, but Davis claims she became paralyzed while at the boutique in December.

‘What did you do to my dog?’ Davis asked the owner in a video taken in the living room.

“I’m looking at his legs and his legs are straight, without any curvature.”

Staff members did not give Davis any direct answers when she questioned them.

‘The lady says you gave it to us like that and I say no, I didn’t. “I didn’t give you my dog like that,” Davis said.

A veterinarian said Tuffy had a ruptured disc in his back and told Davis the surgery would cost $10,000 or more.

Davis said he then had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize her.

She reported the incident to animal control, but they said they could not act due to lack of evidence, KSLTV reports.

After Channel 13 Las Vegas contacted the city’s animal control, they responded: ‘Animal Protective Services was contacted after the owner decided to have the animal humanely euthanized by his veterinarian. The animal was handed over to the groomer by the owner without the animal setting foot on the ground.

‘Animal Protective Services investigators cannot determine at this time whether the animal would be able to use its hind legs upon arrival at the grooming facility. At this time, there is no evidence to confirm beyond a reasonable doubt that the animal was injured at the grooming facility.’

Other Lucky’s Pet Grooming and Boutique customers say they have had similar experiences with their animals suffering injuries in the store.

“If I had had justice the day I asked for justice, there wouldn’t be a second, third or fourth victim because there are more victims than just my dog,” Margarita Bicana told KSLTV.

He said his dog, Turbina, visited the boutique in good health, but left with a fractured lower jaw.

“It’s just practiced behavior that they get away with,” Davis said.
