The heartbroken family of a 19-month-old girl who died when a meter-high brick wall collapsed on top of her have revealed they blame themselves for the freak accident.
Little Teneille was crushed under a pile of bricks in the backyard of her home in Quairading, 165 kilometers west of Perth, on January 2 while chasing her brother.
His devastated parents, Anthony Thorne and Lucinda Winmar, heard a loud crash and then a scream for help, but it was too late.
“The bricks hit the living room wall on the side of the house and then there was silence,” Thorne said. Western Australia.

Devastated parents Anthony Thorne and Lucinda Winmar heard a loud crash and then a cry for help.
Teneille had been running around the side of the house with her brother Kallum chasing her.
Mr Thorne said: “All I heard was my son shouting, ‘Help, help, help,’ and when I got there, Lucinda was there… lifting Teneille bricks.”
Her father picked her up and desperately tried to find a pulse, then took the little girl to the hospital.
“They put her on the bed and the only thing I heard them say was, ‘There’s no sign of life, 19-month-old girl,'” he said.
The family admitted that the house is very dilapidated, but due to the current rental crisis in the country, they were forced to live there after a relative offered it to them.
The couple had applied for dozens of rental properties but couldn’t get any, so when the house came up, they had to take it.
“Some days we feel like we sacrificed our daughter for a roof over our heads, we blame ourselves a lot,” she said.
The family has since moved to Kwinana, 40 kilometers south of Perth.
