- Adidas has been criticized for a ‘basic’ and ‘unimaginative’ GB team kit
- The brand has launched its kits for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- People feel that the reaction to Nike has made Adidas play it safe
Adidas has been criticized for producing a “basic” and “unimaginative” Team GB kit for the Paris Olympics later this year.
The design is described as “based on simplicity”, with a white base and the traditional Union Jack flag on the arm.
Its safe release comes a month after Nike was criticized for a “funny” update of the St George’s Cross on England’s Euro kit. Nike had replaced the horizontal line of the traditional red cross with a navy, light blue and pink one. They were also criticized for their Olympic merchandise.
And many think that this reaction has led Adidas to present a rather boring uniform for the Olympic Games.
‘Team GB’s 2024 Olympics kits are a disappointment compared to previous ranges, particularly those in Tokyo, which were outstanding. Paris kits are the definition of unadventurous,” wrote one user on X, formerly Twitter.

Commentators on social media felt Adidas had made a “rushed alternative” after seeing how Nike had been criticized.
‘NOTHING inspiring about this, really disappointed! It’s so basic and unimaginative………. Basic budget? said another.
“Definitely a rushed alternative after the reaction to everything else,” one wrote.
Earlier this month, Nike also suffered massive backlash for selling Olympic merchandise to fans that were called Union Jack flags but were pink and purple with dots and wavy lines.
Bath-based agency Thisaway, who came up with the concept, said they wanted to “find a way to refresh Team GB’s color palette” because it was “far from unique”, prompting a backlash from politicians and the public.
Former British athlete Fatima Whitbread said she was “absolutely disgusted” by the new merchandise because the Union Jack “represents all that encompasses what is good about our country as the years have gone by.”
