Adelaide Laneway Festival: Bikinis and bare midriffs the preferred dress code as music-lovers flock to festival in scorching hot weather

Thousands of young Australians flocked to Adelaide’s Laneway Festival and reveled in “revealing” summer fashion, with tank tops, bikini tops, shorts and open midriffs the dominant themes of the day.

The mercury soared to 29C at Bonython Park in the city center on Friday and the crowd of young people, full of smiles and full of friendship, were treated to an incredible line-up of musical talent that included Stormzy and Dominic Fike.

Cheyanne Howard, Nevaeh Luke and Piper Monfries captured the theme of the day, with the happy ladies decked out in bikinis and shorts paired with sneakers and boots.

Cheyanne rocked a sheer white dress over her blue and white bikini and all three ladies wore a cool pair of sunglasses on their heads.

Meanwhile, Eowyn Hannan, Maayan Whittaker and Alex Wallace showed off the exposed midriff theme, with all three decked out in light, airy tops cut above the navel, cropped jeans and then shoes.

Tank tops, bikini tops, shorts and open midriffs were the dominant themes of the day.

Alex sported long black boots to give her more of a cowgirl look.

Shorts, whether shorts or cutoff jeans, also dominated among men.

Michael Paul, standing with Yasmin Paul and Kian Paul, looked like the epitome of summer in blue and white striped shorts, a dark button-down shirt and white shoes.

Yasmin and Kian wore the look of the day: short jeans and crop tops.

The young crowd, full of smiles and full of friendship, enjoyed a line-up that included Stormzy and Dominic Fike.

Some of the men, however, did not have such a tight fit and displayed a “daggy” look of loose long pants and daggy shirts.

Outlandish fashion choices also permeated the scene.

A couple of lads were seen wearing matching ‘skeleton’ outfits along with charmingly odd sunglasses and hats.

A distinctive ‘hippie’ aesthetic was also present, a reflection of the freedom that a summer music concert offers.

Some festival-goers presented a playful fashion sense, with a trio seen together presenting a wonderful contrast of styles.

One is dressed in all black, the man in the middle is wearing an open Hawaiian-style shirt, and the other is sporting a bright pink cap and pink skirt.

Friday was a hot day in Adelaide, but nowhere near the levels of the Sydney Laneway outing, which saw temperatures reach 30 degrees in Olympic Park.

Maya Castronini, Zara Parletta and Marietta Lalidis held large blue hand fans to beat the heat.

In addition to keeping things cool, the fans looked splendid as elegant accessories.

Laneway now moves to Melbourne on Saturday before concluding in Perth on Sunday.
