The rising star was arrested on March 25 for “suffocation, assault and molestation” after an incident with an unidentified woman, 30.
They reportedly got into an altercation and she then allegedly proceeded to “attack” her, causing visible injuries such as “a laceration behind her ear and redness and marks on her face”.
“A preliminary investigation determined that a 33-year-old man was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman,” the NYPD statement read. The victim reported to the police that she had been assaulted. Officers took the 33-year-old into custody without incident.
His lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, released a statement on March 27 saying, “Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and may have been the victim of an altercation with a woman he knew.
“We are quickly gathering and submitting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be immediately dropped,” the statement continued.
The lawyer added, “The evidence includes video footage from the car in which this incident took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who witnessed and heard the episode, and most importantly, two written testimonies from the woman denying these allegations.”
Chaudhry continued: “All evidence proves that Mr. Major is completely innocent and did not attack her at all.”
She added, “This incident occurred because this woman was suffering from a psychological crisis, which led to her transfer to the hospital yesterday.”
The NYPD is required to make arrests in these cases, which is the only reason Mr. Majors has been arrested. “We expect these charges to be dropped soon,” she said.
The attorney also released a text message from the woman — which has been withheld to protect her identity — in which she blamed the altercation.
Please let me know you are okay when you get this. They assured me that you will not be charged. They said they had to arrest you in protocol when they saw the injuries on me and knew we had a fight. I am so angry that they did. I am sorry you are in this position. We will make sure nothing happens about this. I told them it was my fault for trying to grab your phone. I just got out of the hospital. Just call me when you’re out. I love you, read the text.
