Adam Sandler is reportedly hard at work on a sequel to his 1996 sports comedy Happy Gilmore, which earned a total of $41.2 million at the worldwide box office.

While it’s been nearly three decades since the film was released, Christopher McDonald, who starred as Shooter McGavin in the 1996 film alongside the 57-year-old comedian, revealed that a script already exists.

During his appearance on Friday’s episode of The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Limarevealed McDonald that he recently ran into Sandler, who unexpectedly showed him a first draft of the long-awaited sequel.

“I saw Adam (Sandler) about two weeks ago and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re going to love this,'” McDonald said. ‘I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.’

Then he paused and suggested that this part of their conversation be ‘cut out’ because he didn’t want to be accused of making it up.

‘I don’t want to be a liar, but he showed it to me and I thought, ‘Well, that would be great.’ So it’s coming,’ McDonald continued. ‘Fans demand it, dammit!’

Happy Gilmore follows Sandler’s title character, who learns that his sweet grandmother (Frances Bay) had his home taken from her.

When he discovers that he has the surprising and unexpected talent of driving a golf ball 400 feet, he wins a local tournament and joins the PGA, where he messes with McGavin, who thinks he’s bad at the game .

The film also stars Julie Bowen as PGA Tour publicist Virginia Venit, Carl Weathers as Chubbs, the golf pro who teaches him the finer points of the game, along with a memorable cameo from The Price Is Right host Bob Barker.

The film was a modest success, earning $41.2 million worldwide from a $12 million budget, and would become a cult classic on home video.

In August, following Barker’s death, Sandler shared an emotional tribute to the late legend.

‘The man. The myth. The best. Such a sweet fun guy to hang out with. Loved talking to him. Loved laughing with him. Loved him kicking the c**p out of me,’ he captioned a throwback slideshow with Barker.

The star continued: ‘He will be missed by everyone I know! Heartbreaking day. Love to Bob always and his family! Thank you for everything you gave us!’

In Happy Gilmore, the two joined in a golf match, but after coming in last place due to Adam’s character’s poor play caused by a rowdy fan in the crowd, they ended up in a fist fight.

Towards the end of the match, which took place on the golf course, Sandler uttered a now-famous line from the film while Barker was momentarily on the ground: “The price is wrong, b***h.”

However, the TV host dealt the final blows to Adam’s character, humorously replying: ‘Now you’ve had enough, b***h.’
