- Great Britain’s team came close to a medal in the men’s 4x100m medley relay
- Despite an inspired effort from Adam Peaty, Great Britain finished fourth.
- China took gold in Paris, marking the first time the United States has lost at the event.
The British team finished fourth in the men’s 4x100m medley relay on Sunday night and just missed out on a medal.
In the final men’s swimming event of the Paris Games, Oliver Morgan was tasked with getting his team off to a strong start in an event where the United States and China were expected to compete for gold.
Adam Peaty has been battling illness in recent days and missed the mixed relay, but put in a strong swim after a superb takeover to keep Team GB in the race.
Peaty’s breaststroke effort briefly moved Britain ahead after the 200m but Duncan Scott and Matthew Williams were unable to keep their team in the medal places as a raucous home crowd pushed France into third place.
The event was highly contested, but an incredible finish by Pan Zhanle allowed China to take gold with a time of 3:27.46.

The United States was forced to settle for silver in 3:28.01, marking the first time in the country’s history that they were defeated in the event.
The only other time the United States failed to win the 4x100m medley relay since the event was introduced in 1960 was during the 1980 Games in the Soviet Union, which it boycotted.
