Adam Hills Shares The Surprising Reason He Put His Stand-Up Comedy Career ‘On Hold’ And ‘Turned Down Massive Gigs’
Adam Hills is putting his comedy aside to work at his rugby charity.
The funny Australian, 53, who was born without a right foot, founded a PDRL (Physically Disabled Rugby League) charity team in Cheshire, England.
Taking the focus off his comedy, Adam is now ready to make his dream of playing in the first PDRL World Cup come true, which is documented in Adam Hills: Grow Another Foot, airing this month on Channel 4.
‘When I was a kid, the idea of playing in a Rugby League World Cup was almost impossible. Now I’m going to get my chance,” Adam says in the documentary, as reported by Sun.
‘I don’t know how I became Mr Rugby League! I have put my comedy career on hold. I reject the massive concerts because they are training nights. Everyone around me can see how obsessed I am with him.

The star presents Rugby League coverage for Channel 4. He also trains weekly with his team in Warrington, Cheshire.
Adam plays for England instead of Australia, which he calls ‘Sophie’s Pick’ in the documentary.
The comedian said that it was not about winning the World Cup, but about allowing people to play in it.

‘I don’t know how I became Mr Rugby League! I have put my comedy career on hold. I reject the massive concerts because they are training nights. Everyone around me can see how obsessed I am with it,’ he said in the documentary.

‘When I was a kid, the idea of playing in a Rugby League World Cup was almost impossible. Now I’m going to get my chance,” says Adam.
Adam describes the PDRL as “fast, brutal and almost unhinged” as he sustains various injuries.
“I got knocked out, fractured my ankle and damaged ligaments, tore my hamstring, apparently I have a compression fracture in one of my discs and it could be early onset osteoporosis,” he explained.
Adam added that at one point he was told to quit rugby league.
‘There’s really a small part of me that thinks, ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’ It’s an arrogance that comes from having a disability. I’m like, “I can deal with another.”
