Japanese actress Miho Nakayama was reportedly found dead in the bathtub of her home in Tokyo.
The 54-year-old was best known for starring in the 1995 film Love Letter and her success as a singer at the height of J-pop influence in the 1980s and ’90s.
After she did not show up for work on Friday, a member of her team went to Ms. Nakayama’s home and found her unconscious.
They called paramedics who confirmed his death at the scene, local media report.
The star was due to perform at a Christmas show in Osaka today, but it was canceled before the announcement of his death was made due to health issues.
A statement posted by his agency on its website confirmed his death. “We are stunned by the sudden occurrence of this event,” it said, adding that the cause of his death has not been confirmed.
