In a statement about the strikethe Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) said their proposal included “an innovative AI proposal that protects actors’ digital images for SAG-AFTRA members.”
When asked about the proposal during the press conference, Crabtree-Ireland said that “This ‘breakthrough’ artificial intelligence proposal that they gave us yesterday, they proposed that our performance records should be able to be scanned, get paid within a day and your companies should own that scan, your image, your likeness and you should be able to use it for the rest of eternity on any project they want, without consent and without compensation. So if you think this is an innovative proposition, I suggest you think again. new”.
The use of generative AI has been one of the main sticking points in the negotiations between the two parties (it’s also a major issue behind the writers’ strike), and in her opening statement for the press conference, SAG President -AFTRA, Fran Drescher, said that “If we don’t stand our ground right now, we will all be in trouble, we will all be in danger of being replaced by machines”.
The SAG-AFTRA strike will officially start at midnight tonight.
