A man is accused of violent rape of an older woman on her morning walk after hiding in dense forest before jumping out and threatening her with a knife.

The woman walked through thick bushes at Angurugu Creek in the Northern Territory when she was reportedly attacked by the 31-year-old.

He is accused of squatting in the bush before forcibly raping the woman and threatening to cut off her head.

The attack occurred in January, police say, near the chlorination plant opposite Angurugu Creek.

The accused, allegedly armed with a machete, is accused of grabbing the victim’s arm and saying, “I want a little bit of you,” Nine news reported.

He is then accused of putting the knife on the woman’s neck and saying, “I’m going to get that” before allegedly pushing her to the floor and raping her.

Police said the man then threatened to “tell someone and I’ll cut your head off.”

The man was arrested at his home on January 17 before being taken to Darwin, where he could not be interviewed because no translators were available.

He was charged with three counts of sexual intercourse without permission, one count of serious assault and one count of threatening a person.

He reappears in the Supreme Court of Darwin on June 18.
