AC Milan are considering a move in January for Nathan Ake to cover defender Simon Kjaer, who will be out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

According to The sun, the Italian giants have identified the Holland international as a potential target.

But convincing City to let the centre-back leave this month could be tricky.

City are keen to keep their team intact as they compete for the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup and try to maintain coverage against potential Covid outbreaks.

Ake found first-team opportunities largely hard to come by at City since joining a £40 million move from Bournemouth in August 2020.

But the 26-year-old has started City’s last three games. In total, he has played 14 games in all competitions for the club so far this season.

City currently lead the Premier League table with 10 points more than Chelsea and 11 points more than Liverpool, who still have one game up their sleeve.

They will be in action on Saturday when they face Ake’s former club Chelsea in the early kick-off of the day at the Etihad Stadium.

Milan, meanwhile, are second in Serie A and one point behind leaders and rivals Inter, though they have played one more game.

Kjaer sustained the injury last month in his team’s 3-0 win against Genoa.
