ABC could be forced to scrap Anh’s Brush With Fame because artist Anh Do ‘refuses to sign for new series’

Anh’s Brush with Fame may not return for its seventh season.

The future of the hit ABC interview series hosted by Anh Do is in doubt with the artist and comedian ‘refusing to sign up for another series’ TV Black Box.

The news comes after Do, 44, was forced to respond to claims that his paintings were prepared for the show before being filmed and, in some cases, are not entirely his own work.

Ax: The future of hit ABC interview series Anh’s Brush with Fame, hosted by Anh Do, is in doubt with the artist and comedian “refusing to sign up for another series,” TV Blackbox reports

The industry website’s sources claim that the “social media response” to Do’s “trial and completed artworks” is one of the reasons he wants to walk away.

The ABC said in a statement that the seventh season of Anh’s Brush with Fame had not yet been locked.

Earlier this month, Do clarified that he paints the celebrity portraits featured in his acclaimed interview series.

Answering questions from The Sydney Morning Herald, he confirmed: ‘It’s all my own work.’

He went on to reveal that prior to the interview, he prepares “studies,” which are created from photographs of his subjects.

Those studies can be used for final work when he has an “off day” and does not finish work during the interview that he is happy with.

He does, however, have ‘help’ from his teacher, New Zealand-born artist Paul Ryan, an accomplished portrait artist and 13-time Archibald finalist.

Ryan confirmed to The Sydney Morning Herald that he is assisting with the early stages of the portraits being taken.

“Yes, it’s true, but Anh is a bit reluctant to reveal how it all works, he doesn’t like me talking about it,” he told the newspaper.

“And he turned me down when I asked for a consultant’s credit for the show, even though every other asshole involved gets one,” he added.

The publication claimed that Do Ryan’s contribution to the show “weakened” and said he had simply sought “advice” from his fellow performer.

“I think he might be taking a little too much credit,” Do said.

Do has painted a large number of celebrities on Anh’s Brush with Fame.

This season he interviewed model Tara Moss, singer Guy Sebastian, television vet Dr. Harry Cooper and singer Marcia Hines.

As the celebrities engage in an in-depth and emotional conversation with the artist, he creates a portrait of them, which they then take home.

Do has admitted that the works are not always completed within the time of the interview and that they are sometimes modified afterwards.
