He’s been hailed as the next James Bond, but Aaron Taylor-Johnson ditched MI6, Martini cocktails and electric razors as he attended Wimbledon with his director wife Sam on Sunday.

The actor was almost unrecognisable beneath a thick beard as the pair headed to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in south-west London.

Aaron, 34, looked suitably dapper in a cream double-breasted suit and slip-on loafers ahead of his latest appearance at the event, completing the look with a white half-placket shirt.

In a gesture that would have the conventionally dressed 007 raising his eyebrows in bemusement, the actor completed his look with two distinctive gold chains, visible beneath his unbuttoned shirt.

Accompanying her husband, Sam, 57, turned heads in a casual white vest and matching jeans as they headed to Centre Court.

The couple met on the set of Nowhere Boy in 2009 and share daughters Wylda Rae, 13, and Romy Hero, 11, as well as Angelica, 26, and Jessie, 16, from Sam’s previous marriage to art dealer Jay Jopling.

When they met on the film, Aaron was just 18 and Sam was 42. They didn’t get together until after the project wrapped, where a “deep connection” formed.

Sam previously spoke about falling in love with Aaron on set, but insisted nothing happened until the film was wrapped.

She said: “I managed to hold on until almost the end of the film. We weren’t even together at that point. Maybe the feelings were there, but I didn’t confront them.”

The sighting comes amid reports that Aaron has been approached to play the new James Bond, replacing Daniel Craig.

The Sun reported that the British actor had been “formally offered the chance to play James Bond”, ending months of speculation over Daniel Craig’s successor.

But insiders have denied reports that he has been cast to play the new Bond in the 007 films, leading to speculation.

Responding to rumours that he could be taking over the Bond role last week, Aaron played coy, telling Numero: “I find it lovely and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a huge compliment.”

He began acting as a child and has seen his career go from strength to strength, with three major film appearances this year alone.

Aaron will play a famous action star who goes missing in The Fall Guy, alongside Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.

He will also appear in the highly anticipated remake of the 1922 gothic horror film Nosferatu, directed by Robert Eggers and featuring a star-studded cast including Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp and Willem Dafoe.

But the biggest role Aaron will next take on will be his return to the superhero universe, as he will play the lead role in Kraven the Hunter, the fifth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

He was previously nominated for two BAFTA Awards and won Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes for Nocturnal Animals.
