Free agent wide receiver Marquez Valdez-Scantling spoke glowingly of his former quarterback, though not exactly his most recent team’s.

Not that he was dissing Patrick Mahomes at all, but the receiver who most recently played for the Kansas City Chiefs was praising his former Green Bay caller, Aaron Rodgers.

Speaking with CBS Sports Radio’s Zach Gelb, MVS had plenty of positive things to say about the gunslinger who now wears a different shade of green with the New York Jets.

“Man, he’s one of the best teammates you’ll ever find,” Valdes-Scantling said. ‘He cares more about his teammates than about football.

“I think that’s something that people don’t really understand because they have this perception of him that he’s whatever, this diva, or that he’s all about himself, and that’s the furthest thing from the truth.

‘Aaron has taught me many things on and off the field. He’s a big advocate for your mental health and how you approach life, not just football, and the things he’s been through over the years.

“He shares that and just lets you know, ‘Hey, I’m human too. I may throw this ball very, very well, but I’m also human. I have bad days and I have good days.’ Just so he can open up and be a great friend to me, not just a teammate, but a great friend to me.

‘I will always be indebted to him. He’s one of the guys who texts me and he’s like, “Hey, I’m proud of you,” even though he’s completely random. Just, “Hey, I’m reaching out to you. I love you, bro.” Those are things, like I said, I haven’t been his teammate for two or three years. We and we still have the same relationship.’

Valdes-Scantling has yet to sign with a team, prompting Gelb to ask the receiver if he was considering teaming up with Rodgers in New York.

“I mean, Aaron and I have talked, but like I said, it’s a conversation that my agent and I need to talk about,” the receiver responded.

“I don’t really want to talk about free agent stuff right now. I’ll let that take care of itself. Right now, I’m looking forward to whatever that looks like.”
