Tayla Brailey should be looking forward to celebrating her first wedding anniversary next month.

On 30 September 2023, loved ones gathered at The Grange Golf Club in Wollongong to watch the bride and groom exchange vows.

Photos from their wedding show the couple beaming with joy as they popped the corks on bubbles and shared a romantic kiss during their first dance.

But instead of happy memories, the anniversary will only serve as a bitter reminder of how drastically their lives have changed since then.

The 30-year-old physical education teacher has been accused of sexually abusing two male students, aged between 16 and 17, whom she met while working at Lurnea High School in Sydney’s south-west.

Police will allege the sexual assaults occurred several times in July, including at their marital home in West Wollongong.

She was arrested by her first alleged victim on August 6 and charged with sexual contact, sexual intercourse with a person under her care and aggravated sexual assault.

The following day she appeared at Liverpool Local Court where she was granted bail on strict conditions, requiring her to move out of the flat she shared with her husband and live with her parents in another Wollongong suburb.

Just over a week later, police went to her parents’ home at 7 a.m. Friday and arrested her on charges related to a second student.

She was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with six new charges, including having sexual intercourse with a teenager in her care, sexually touching a teenager in her care and inciting a teenager in her care to sexually touch her.

She was also charged with soliciting, accessing and possessing or controlling child abuse material.

Brailey’s latest case was heard in Wollongong Local Court on Friday. Police initially refused him bail but the magistrate re-granted it.

The same strict conditions imposed last week remain in place, including leaving home only if accompanied by a parent, observing a 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew and reporting to police three times a week.

He is also prohibited from accessing social media, entering Lurnea, communicating with his alleged victims or any prosecution witnesses, being in any educational facility or being in the presence of a minor unless the child is accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Her husband has been supportive of her despite the allegations. He attended her first court appearance last week, but chose to stay in the lobby rather than sit in the courtroom as the allegations were detailed.

Outside court, Brailey’s parents and her husband were seen hugging and comforting each other as they sobbed.

During last week’s hearing, the court heard that the first boy added Brailey on Snapchat in early July before the pair allegedly began exchanging sexually explicit images and videos.

In the following weeks, Brailey allegedly invited the first boy to her home and performed a sexual act on him (which was witnessed by the boy’s friend) and had sex with him in the back of a car while he was missing school.

She then allegedly went to a pharmacy and bought the morning-after pill.

According to documents referenced in court, when questioned by detectives about the allegations, Brailey allegedly became “hysterical” and said, “I’m going to go to jail, right? I’m going to lose my family, my husband, my job.”

Brailey got engaged to her husband in December 2021 before celebrating her bachelorette party with friends and family in Bali in June last year.

Three months later, dressed in a Jane Hill gown (which retails for around A$5,800) and a rhinestone tiara, she said “I do” in front of her loved ones.

Social media posts show Brailey picking up her wedding dress with her mother ahead of the wedding at the golf club, which caters to groups of 50 to 250 people and features a “Hamptons-style clubhouse” overlooking “manicured greens.”

Earlier this week, Brailey was seen in Wollongong having breakfast with her family as she made her way to report to police to apply for bail.

The school has confirmed that she has been suspended without pay and support is being provided to staff and students at the school.

His matters are due back before Campbelltown Local Court on October 2.
