The woman, who has not been named, was found on an electricity pole in the village of Chakhabib Rudhiya in the northern state of Bihar on Tuesday.
Villagers rushed her to hospital after she was discovered naked, unconscious and in critical condition.
The woman was reportedly targeted after venturing to use an open toilet in the early morning.
The attackers reportedly took her to an abandoned area where she was raped and beaten while resisting, India today reported, saying that the men threatened the life of the woman.
They thought she was dead and then hanged her on the utility pole. The men would also have stolen the woman’s jewelry.
