Woman in her twenties drowns heroically trying to save a troubled teen – third swimming death in the same area in just 24 hours
A young woman tragically drowned while frantically trying to save another swimmer after a horror afternoon on Victoria’s waters.
The woman in her twenties was in a hurry to help teenage girl wrestles in the water at Venus Bay in Victoria’s Gippsland region on Wednesday evenings around 7.30pm.
She too got into trouble in the water and had to be towed to shore by an off duty lifeguard where she could not be revived despite desperate efforts.
The woman was one of three drownings in Victoria within four hours on Wednesday.

It comes after another woman, 45, drowned hours earlier after being swept off the rocks at Bushrangers Bay at the foot of the Mornington Peninsula
Police believe a 13-year-old girl, 19-year-old and a 47-year-old woman were swept off the dangerous rocks on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m.
An 80-year-old man also drowned on Rye beach in south Melbourne on Wednesday afternoon.
