A woman has in a 24-year age gap relationship revealed she married her ex boyfriend’s dad

A 27-year-old woman who married her ex-boyfriend’s father has revealed how the couple formed a close bond when she was in sixth grade — despite a 24 year age difference — before embarking on a romantic relationship when she was just just 16 years old, much to the horror of her friends and family.

Sydney Dean, of Ohio, first met her now-husband Paul, 51, when she was in sixth grade and dating his son.

After she and her then-boyfriend ended their romantic relationship, the couple remained friends – and Sydney continued to spend time with him and his family, including Paul, at their home.

It was then that she began to bond with Paul, despite their huge age difference and her young age – although it didn’t turn 16 in Sydney – the legal age of consent in her home state – that the couple’s romance began to blossom.

Despite the couple’s furious backlash from their loved ones over the controversial age difference relationship, their romance went from strength to strength, and in 2016 they tied the knot.

More than a decade later, the couple are still doing well – although Sydney admits that those around them have struggled to process the romance and the two and a half decades between them – but she doesn’t care because she’s having the best sex of her life.

“He’s the only one I’ve had sex with and he’s the best,” said Sydney. “I can’t really compare the sex to other relationships, since it’s the first real relationship I’ve been in.”

Sydney admits their relationship is far from traditional, but insists she wouldn’t want it any other way, saying: “I never expected to fall in love with Paul and we met in a non-traditional way, but I’m so glad I did.’

While she says the couple are happy together, Sydney admits that there have been several ups and downs on their path to true love – especially when it came to convincing their loved ones, who were very resistant to the match at first.

“My mother already knew who Paul was and from the few times they spoke, they got along well,” Sydney confessed. “But when I first told my mother we were together, she wasn’t happy.”

However, the couple persevered and eventually Sydney says her mother came up with the idea that they would be together.

She said: ‘The age difference really touched her and it stayed that way for about a year – eventually she came to. [After this] we went to her house almost every weekend to chill or have a barbecue.’

Sydney’s mother’s bond with Paul has also been strengthened by the fact that the couple now live near her – meaning they’ve been able to form their own bond.

“Now that we live fairly close to each other, she always comes by,” she explains. “She supports us 100 percent and absolutely loves Paul. In fact, they probably chat more than me and them.’

But Sydney’s mom wasn’t the only relative she had to convince — and her dad was also struggling with his daughter’s newfound romance.

“At first my dad didn’t like the age difference either and since he lives out of state he didn’t see him much, but now he really likes him,” she explained.

As for Paul’s two children, the couple believe his youngest found their romance the “hardest” as Sydney already knew him.

Sydney said: ‘He didn’t approve of the relationship for a few years, but now that we’re together and married, he’s supporting us to be together.

“He comes every other weekend with his girlfriend and their three kids just to hang out with us and have a barbecue.”

Aside from family feuds, the couple has also faced personal struggles, especially when Paul suffered a terrifying car accident that left him in the hospital for three weeks.

“Paul had a terrible truck accident last July and spent nearly three weeks in the SICU,” she recalls.

However, this ultimately helped Sydney get closer to Paul’s children, including her ex-boyfriend, as they all came together to help him through his injuries.

‘While [Paul] was in [the hospital]”I would talk to his son every day and we would see him together,” Sydney said. “Now the whole family is okay with us being together.”

When the couple first started dating, they struggled to convince their friends and family of the relationship's authenticity.

Although the two are madly in love, Sydney says she’s lost friends because of the relationship

Not everyone came by though, she said she had ‘a friend who didn’t agree with’ [her] and Paul’s relationship.’

“This friend would never want to hang out with me or even talk to me much when he was around.”

She added: “She ended up not wanting to be my girlfriend anymore because of the age difference in the relationship.”

Sydney hopes sharing her story will help remove the stigma associated with age gap relationships.

She added: ‘I wish people would understand that age-gap couples can really love and care for each other.

“There are a lot of negative assumptions about age-gap relationships, but that doesn’t mean couples can’t be in it for the right reasons.

“He’s the best husband I could have wished for, and he treats me so wonderfully.”
