A Utah father crashed his car and killed his girlfriend when he tried to kiss her while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Chase Allen Bosshardt, 32, of Toquerville, was driving on the 10 Freeway north of Minneapolis when he delivered the fatal kiss to Ashley Cheyenne Jones on July 19.

A witness told police the Kia Soul was “travelling so fast it bounced over dips in the road” before veering left into the path of a BMW SUV travelling in the opposite lane.

Jones, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene while Bosshardt was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, where he was charged with criminal vehicular homicide.

He is scheduled to appear in Sherburne County District Court after being released from the hospital.

Bosshardt told an officer he had been smoking marijuana and drinking until 6 a.m. the night before.

He also said he did not believe Jones, of Mountain Ranch in California, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

After waking up on July 19, she met Jones at McCoy’s Pub in Elk River, where she drank a large beer but did not eat anything before getting into her car,” she told police.

But a staff member told investigators that Bosshardt drank two tall beers, a smaller beer and a mixed drink at the bar before the couple left.

She was still over the legal blood alcohol limit of 0.8 percent when she was tested in her hospital bed and admitted she had been “kissing in the vehicle before the accident happened.”

A Minnesota State Police report said Bosshardt’s car was turning left from the westbound lane when the collision occurred.

Jermarquis Echols, who was driving the BMW, said he braked when he saw the Kia swerving into his path, but was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.

The 46-year-old Afton, Minnesota, man was traveling with his partner Jennifer Reich, 45, and their daughter Elliana, 17, and all were treated for minor injuries at the same hospital as Bosshardt.

A Minnesota State Police report said Bosshardt's car was making a left turn off the westbound lane of Highway 10 when the collision occurred.

Bosshardt, a home security office manager for Vivint, married in 2015 and is believed to have two young children with his former partner.
