A US birthing nurse filmed her shocked reactions as she watched a pregnant Scottish woman open a government-donated “baby box” containing abundant supplies for the newborn.
Jen Hamilton, 33, from North Carolina, looked amazed in a new TikTok as she watched mom blogger Rachel Clenaghan, 28, unbox the contents of the ‘baby box’, which she received for free 36 weeks during her pregnancy.
“Today we received our Scottish Baby Box, which every Scottish family is entitled to when they are expecting a baby,” Rachel began.
“And it’s free from the Scottish Government. So I thought I’d unbox it with you and show you what’s inside,” she continued.
Scottish mum blogger Rachel Clenaghan, 28, unpacked the contents of her ‘baby box’ – which she received for free from her government at 36 weeks pregnant.

The exterior of the “baby box” is decorated with child-friendly line drawings that can be colored.

She went on to point out that the box itself also doubles as a mini crib, complete with a mattress.

Also included are baby clothes, a blanket, a towel, a wrap, toys, books, two types of thermometers (body and “bath and room”), toiletries, fitted sheets for the mattress in the box – and even a “sweet poem”.
Rachel, who also received a box before the birth of her first child – now 13 months – explained how the box itself is “beautifully illustrated” with black outlines of various child-friendly images, adding that she think that “the goal is that the younger members of the family (members) can decorate it for the new arrival.
“But in my case, I might actually get out my coloring pens and do it myself, because it’s so tempting to color,” she admitted.

Beyond that, the “baby box” comes with various instruction manuals, including breastfeeding and “safe sleep.”

During the clip, Jen’s expressions oscillated between increasing levels of astonishment and admiration for the scope of the free arrangements, aimed at reducing stress for new parents and setting a universal standard for the first months of life .
Meanwhile, the text “(Cries in American)” floated below Jen’s dual-screen TikTok.
“I honestly can’t believe it, we are so lucky to receive something like this. I feel like it should be available everywhere,” Rachel concluded.

Many took advantage of these comments to echo Jen’s disbelief at the breadth of products offered in the “baby box” – especially since the US government is offering nothing.

“The USA Baby box contains nothing but thoughts and prayers,” lamented one. Echoing for a second, “our ‘baby box’ consisted of a $13,000 bill… ‘MERICA!!’
“Wow, it’s almost like they care about the child after it’s born!” Amazing!’ » rang out a third.
“‘So every baby has the same start’… it’s absolutely wonderful,” exclaimed the logic behind government policy.
“Meanwhile, in America… ‘I know you just gave birth last week, but will you come to your shift tomorrow??'” someone else seethed about the sharply limited maternity leave imposed by the American government.
“The more I learn about other countries, the more I hate this place,” yet another American hisses with envy.
Scotland’s official website sets out the rationale behind providing the Baby Starter Pack to every new parent: “In Scotland, we believe parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world… With this in mind, we want to make sure Scotland is the best place in the world to grow up.
“That’s why, in 2017, we launched the Baby Box initiative, designed to give every Scottish baby an equal start in life.” began a statement explaining the origins of the “baby box”.
