A three-year-old boy was seriously injured after falling through a window on the south side of Chicago.

The boy fell out of a window in a residence around 6 p.m. Saturday in the 7600 block of South Coles Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood, according to police.

According to reports, the child's mother was taking a nap with the child and another child when the three-year-old boy got up, walked to the window and fell down.

A neighbor told ABC7 that he found the boy lying on the pavement in the "catwalk," a Chicago term for the catwalk between two buildings.

The neighbor immediately called 911 and the first responders ran to the scene.

The boy was taken to the Children's Hospital Comer in serious condition, police said.

The relatives said that the boy was expected to recover.

The police spent two hours on the scene interrogating the mother, who was seen crying and hugging the neighbors by the news cameras.
