A Texas man was denied bail after allegedly shooting and killing his ex -girlfriend and his new boyfriend in a tragic incident earlier this week. The double homicide occurred on Monday night in Ambocita, a neighborhood northeast of Houston, leaving a community in shock.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s office, the agents responded to a 911 call at approximately 10:46 PM informing of a shooting in a residence in Redwood Drive’s block. When the authorities arrived at the scene, they found Alejandro Suárez, 30, unconscious and with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services declared him dead shortly after, they said Click2Houston.
Near there, Charity Freeman, 26, was discovered with a gunshot wound. They took her urgently to a local hospital, where she was also declared dead. After an investigation, Yamil Javier Rivera-Pérez, 34, was identified as the shooter and arrested.
Rivera-Pérez now faces capital murder positions, which lead to the possibility of life imprisonment or death penalty. Rivera-Pérez and Freeman had reportedly State involved in a brief but abusive relationship. Freeman’s family revealed that she ended the relationship last year, seeking to protect her and her two young children, 4 and 2 years old.
The researchers claim that Rivera-Pérez forcibly entered the house the night of the incident and shot both Freeman and Suárez. Freeman’s brother, who was in the house during the attack, declared that Rivera-Pérez kicked the door, ran upstairs and fatally shot the couple. He added that he had been down with Freeman’s children at that time, protecting them from horrible violence.
According to reports, the Freeman family is trying to establish contact with Suárez’s family to offer their condolences. Freeman’s two young children are now in the care of his grandmother. No official reason has been revealed, but the investigation continues.
The authorities have indicated that the incident seems to be related to Freeman’s past abusive relationship with Rivera-Pérez. The tragedy has left many in the disconsolate community, since two young children are left without their mother.
“Charity was a loving mother who wanted to build a better life for her and her children,” a family member shared. As the case develops, Freeman’s family urges victims of domestic violence to seek help and support. They expect tragedy to raise awareness about the devastating consequences of abusive relationships.
