- Passerby jumps off the platform and rescues him
- Station staff also saw a man and stopped the trains.
A heroic bystander has risked his life to save a man who was stranded between the train tracks at a busy city train station.
Just before 10am on Sunday, a man was seen standing on the tracks of Melbourne’s South Yarra station, a few stops south-east of the CBD.
CCTV footage captured the barefoot man standing motionless between two train lines as passengers frantically gestured and called to him from platforms on either side.
A man in a black T-shirt appears to be discussing the situation with a member of station staff before suddenly jumping from the platform onto the tracks.
Run to the man standing between the tracks and pull him onto the platform.
A heroic member of the public jumped onto the tracks and managed to pull the man to safety.
The stranded man appears to willingly go to his savior as he is held in a loose bear hug.
With this bit of encouragement, the barefoot man jumps over the train tracks and onto the platform with the help of the Metro Trains staff member.
The rescuer also nimbly climbs to safety.
Metro Trains later told Channel Nine that trains approaching the station stopped after the man was seen on the train tracks.
It is not known if the heroic savior knew that the trains had stopped before his brave run down the tracks.
Metro Trains has been contacted for comment.
