Terrifying moment mother and two children prevent them from being killed by an uncontrolled car with just a few centimeters as they run off California Road
- The family had just collected some burritos & walked back to their car
- Suddenly an uncontrolled vehicle appeared and hit the restaurant patio
- The mother and two children carefully avoid being plowed into the vehicle
This is the terrifying moment when a mother and her two young children are forced to run out of the way of a car that gets out of hand while spinning off a road and bumping into a restaurant, barely missing the fleeing family.
The family had just picked a few burritos and walked back to their own car on Monday as the vehicle streamed them outside outside Villa Corona in Napa, California.
Dramatic footage of the surveillance allows the children to run forward for a fraction of a second before the car rolls into the restaurant patio, destroys tables, chairs and umbrellas and causes an estimated damage of $ 10,000.
It then hit a nearby concrete wall and came to a halt in the back yard of a neighbor where other children were playing.
The female driver, 60, and a young child were brought to the hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined and no arrests have been made.
Police said the gloomy weather that day probably & # 39; mass casualties & # 39; has occurred because the patio was abandoned.
The shocking 12-second video clip shows the mother holding the door of the restaurant open for her two children as they follow her outside.
The mother, followed by her two young children, had just picked up some food and the family went back to their car
A few seconds later, an uncontrolled car swung off the road and plowed into the patio at the Mexican restaurant in California
Apparently mocking the approaching car, both children protect their heads and run for cover as the vehicle gets out of hand and rips through the patio.
A cloud of rubble floats over the frame and a moment later the extent of the damage becomes visible, with broken furniture and broken pottery spread over the ground.
Stunned restaurant employee Vivian Saldivar looked out the window at that moment and had just finished serving the family.
In the aftermath, however, the wreck was strewn everywhere on the sidewalk, remarkably enough, nobody was seriously injured
She told CBS San Francisco: & # 39; It was like a bomb. When that happened, the first thing that occurred to me – because I froze because I don't know how long, maybe a minute – I thought of a lady and two children I just greeted. Like, my heart just fell. & # 39;
Fernando Villasenor, owner of the restaurant, told NBC that viewing the images & # 39; my guts distorted & # 39; and the & # 39; incredible & # 39; was that nobody was hurt.
Sergeant Heath Morrison, of Napa PD, added: & # 39; You did the same incident the day before when the weather was really nice and the patio was full and we could have had mass casualties. & # 39;
Police say the driver was not drunk or had a medical emergency at the time of the collision.
Officers investigate whether a mechanical problem may have been a factor.
