An alleged former Secret Service agent has revealed his top tips for staying safe while out in public, and some of them may be surprising.

The important information was shared in a new TikTok video posted this week by Scott Bryson, who says he worked in the United States Secret Service for many years.

Although he is now retired, he still takes to social media to share his tips and tricks, and this time was no different as he urged everyone to be “observant” while out and about.

The first tip he shared in the video was simple: always make sure you put your phone away when you park your car and enter a store.

“Don’t use the phone, same thing going in and out,” Bryson said. “Don’t use the phone.”

He then gave an important warning to people in the parking lot, highlighting the importance of being aware of their surroundings.

‘Ladies, especially you, listen, when you’re parked here… if you come out and there’s a car parked right next to you, and I mean really close to the line or something, that should be a red flag,’ Bryson shared.

‘Is there anyone in the car? Is it a minivan? Does it have sliding doors? Is it an all-terrain vehicle? I’m not saying you can’t get in your car, but just hit the brake, okay? continuous.

“Just take it easy, take a look around, don’t just jump in the car. It could be okay, it could be something, I don’t know.

As a third tip, he suggested comparing yourself to your car while pumping gas at a gas station and making sure you don’t get distracted by your phone.

“Now you’ve reduced your 360 to 180, where you can see,” Bryson explained.

“If someone comes up to you and they’re up to no good, spray them with gas,” he continued.

“That’s not right, I wouldn’t want them to spray me with gas, they’d probably run away.”

Finally, their last suggestion was about where to sit in a public place, like a restaurant or a movie theater.

“When you’re in a restaurant, don’t sit with your back to the door,” he instructed.

‘Be able to see the door. Know where the exits are,’ he said.

Bryson explained that the same thing applies in movie theaters and churches: You want to sit at the back.

‘If you’re a fighter, you can get up and go fight. If you don’t want to fight, that’s fine too, you can run, but you have to be able to get out, right? Bryson told the audience.

“Don’t get stuck in the middle of the road,” he concluded.

In the comments section of their post, many even shared their own tried-and-true public safety tips.

‘Leave an exit when driving. Don’t stop too close when stopped at traffic lights. You will always be able to see the tires of the car in front of you… This gives you a way out most of the time,” one person wrote.

Another user wrote: “Don’t go into convenience stores with the windows covered in ads.” People need to be able to see from the car park what’s going on inside.’

‘When I feel unsafe walking to my car, I set the alarm until I get close. Make everyone stop and look,” someone else commented.
