Rebel Wilson has hit back after Meshel Laurie boldly accused her of making up a “bullshit story” about her in her new memoir.

The Hollywood star, 44, made headlines with her hard-hitting memoir, Rebel Rising, and left Australian author Meshel, 51, unhappy over one anecdote.

However, Rebel has firmly denied that the story in question is about the podcast host.

In her book, Rebel talks about her meteoric rise to fame in Pitch Perfect and how everyone she vaguely knew tried to befriend her after her successful breakout role.

She remembers someone from her past reaching out to her and saying, “Hey, yeah, I’m thinking about going to LA. Can I stay with you? You’re the best. I’ve always loved you. Bye.”

Rebel claimed she ignored the request, thinking, “Since you weren’t actually my friend and now you work at the front desk of a brothel, I’m not going to respond to you.”

The Bridesmaids star admitted she still feels “guilty” about saying no to the mystery person, who she did not name in the excerpt.

But Meshel later claimed that many people, including herself, believe the story is about her because she has spoken openly about the three years she spent working as a brothel receptionist in the 1990s.

Talking about Can We Be Real? podcastMeshel said: “As someone who has been in this (entertainment) industry for a long time, I have never met or heard of anyone else who has worked in the front office of a brothel.”

Meshel said she met Rebel “many, many years ago” at a concert and that they shared an agent for “a long time,” but denied having her contact information or having emailed her to ask her to stay with her in Los Angeles.

The podcaster said it “annoys” her that many people read the book and assume she was the one who “pretended” to be friends with Rebel, and her co-host Simon Baggs agreed with her.

“It’s embarrassing. I don’t want people to think that about me,” she admitted.

‘(Rebelde), you should feel guilty for making up this fucking shitty story about me and putting it in your book,’ she continued.

Meshel (pictured) accused Rebel of making up a story about her “pretending” to be his friend by emailing him to ask to stay with her in Los Angeles following her rise to fame, but Rebel has firmly denied the story was about her.

“Maybe it’s about someone else. It has to be because it’s not about me.”

However, Rebel set the record straight by denying the story was about Meshel, insisting there is no reference to her anywhere in Rebel Rising, which was released in April.

She said news.com.au:’I am not referring to Meshel Laurie at all in that segment or in my book or in any segment of my book.

‘I’m referring to a friend who I took acting classes with at the Australian Theatre for Young People.’
