The sleepy town, located near Lake Norman, is just 25 miles from the big city and is best known for the number of NASCAR racing teams and drivers that hail from the area, earning it the nickname “Race City USA.”
Beyond its residents’ need for speed, it’s a good place to settle down, with home prices averaging around $480,500 in July.
The city’s population has grown by almost 30 percent in two years, rising from 38,500 to 50,000 between 2020 and 2022, according to GoBanking Feesthat classified cities.

Of the 50 chosen, many came from Arizona, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan and Texas.
The top five places to move are Moorseville; Hamtramck, Michigan; Buckeye, Arizona; Union City, Georgia; and Canyon Lake, Texas.
Some more recognizable cities also made the list, including Dearborn, Michigan; Brocton, Massachusetts; and Desert Hot Springs, California.
