New York Congressman Ritchie Torres broke into New York Magazine for a story on Democrats and the progressive movement after the magazine confused him with another prominent black New York official: Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado.

In an article titled “The ‘Progressives’ Who Gone,” the magazine used images of Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, former Congressman Mondaire Jones, and Congressman Ritchie Torres.

But the original image did not include Torres but Delgado.

Torres took a screenshot of the image and posted it on

“I’m not Antonio Delgado,” Torres closed to the magazine. “Not all black people look the same.”

The online version of the magazine article has since updated the image to include Fetterman, Jones and an actual image of Torres.

Torres is known for supporting progressive legislation in Congress, but has split with some fellow Democrats in recent months, as Torres has been a strong supporter of Israel following the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7.

New York Magazine, which Torres criticized, focused on his support for Israel in its article.

‘Torres is not a hypocrite. If we take him at his word, he has been a Zionist for a long time. But he’s also not telling the truth about the progressive movement or his place within it,” the article reads.

He goes on to claim that Torres may have been able to consider himself a progressive, but states that “that exercise is difficult to sustain now, while Israel carries out a genocidal campaign in Gaza.”

Torres criticized the article as an “anti-Israel article” and noted that it confused his image with that of Delgado.

The article also features Jones, a former New York congressman running to return to Congress, who endorsed George Latimer in another New York congressional race against incumbent progressive lawmaker Jamaal Bowman.

Attention is also focused on Senator Fetterman, who has been a fierce defender of Israel and the return of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas more than six months ago.
