And most recently he surprised the bodybuilder. Brad Jensen when she told him about her “four bites” dessert rule on a podcast.
“You eat about four bites of dessert and then you stop,” he summarized.
‘The first bite is delicious, the second is also very good, the third is quite good but not as good as the second – and the fourth is good but not as good as the first.’
Speaking to FEMAIL, Lindsey Matthews said that having a small treat a day can help people curb their sweet tooth.
“I think when you try to cut something out completely, all you do is make yourself want more of it. That’s why I’m all about moderation and including your favorite foods in small amounts,” she said.
Lindsey’s favorite treat is something called a “pizookie,” a freshly baked cookie topped with a big scoop of ice cream.
Bodybuilder Brad Jensen said Lindsey Matthew’s four-bite dessert rule “changed my life”
“I think when you try to cut something out completely, it just makes you want more. That’s why I’m all about moderation and adding your favorite foods in small amounts,” says US trainer Lindsey Matthew.
Fitness fans loved the American trainer’s moderate approach to enjoying decadent sweets, with many saying they couldn’t wait to try it out.
“I’ve been doing this for years… four bites and you can enjoy without too many consequences,” one woman said.
“So true! Four bites versus nausea after eating it all,” another agreed.
“This is a great idea… I have a sweet tooth and I love desserts… This is definitely worth a try!” commented one.
Others insisted that four bites were not enough when it came to some desserts.
Australian dietitian Jessica Spendlove recommends eating a high-protein snack before satisfying any sweet cravings as a way to ensure you don’t burden your body with too much of the wrong foods.
“Apparently you’ve never had a vanilla cake from Costco, 32 bites later and it’s still amazing… stop talking nonsense,” one woman joked.
Another responded that it took four bites to eat an entire dessert: “If it takes you more than four bites to eat dessert, then you’re doing it wrong.”
One man simply refused to practice any moderation when it came to enjoying sweets.
“If I start it, I finish it: that’s the rule,” he said.
Australian dietician and performance coach Jessica Spendlove told FEMAIL she would stop using the method.
“That might be a strategy that some people might find helpful, but if you’re eating a dessert that you have to enjoy and it’s not something you do often, just eat the whole dessert and enjoy it,” Jessica said.
Instead, he shared a method he recommends to his clients.
“Eat a nutritious, protein-rich snack first, like Greek yogurt or cheese and crackers, and then have something sweet,” she said.
Jessica explained that a sweet craving may simply be an indication that you’re hungry for food in general, so eat something good for you first and then indulge.
