A personal trainer purposely placed fourth by mocking junk food during the lockdown so he could understand how bigger people think of themselves.

Andrew Roberts, 23, from Manchester, stopped exercising and started eating unhealthy foods for six months.

He went from exercising five times a week and eating 2,000 calories of healthy vegan daily to eating more than 5,000 calories of plant-based junk food, including nuggets, sausage rolls, pizza and burgers, and snacks like ice cream.

The fitness buff managed to consume 1,000 calories for breakfast just by munching on maple crunch cereal.

He said: ‘When I started this journey I never expected to gain so much weight and I can’t lie, it’s shocking to see how different I looked six months ago.

“It’s been a rollercoaster of a journey that has tested me both physically and mentally, but it’s one I’m happy with and I’ve learned so much already.

“I have no doubt that the next six months will be as tough as the past six, if not harder, but I’m ready to give it my all!

He added: ‘The weight gain phase is officially over! Gained a huge amount of weight and inches. Now it’s time to lose everything.’

By his eighth week of unhealthy eating, the personal trainer had already won two stone.

Andrew spends this month transitioning to a healthy diet and then starts back in the gym.

He said the weight gain affected his libido, gave him stretch marks on his thighs, made him snore, hurt his back and affected his mood and motivation.

It also caused a serious health scare as he rushed to the emergency room for emergency scans due to pain in his heart, arm and leg, which thankfully was not serious.

Andrew, who lives with girlfriend Jess Carolan, 25, decided to gain weight so he could understand how bigger people feel about themselves.

He said the weight-gain mission was much to his girlfriend’s delight, adding, “She’s pretty healthy too, so she didn’t like the thought of me having to help my body through all that, but she got me so supported.

“I started snoring and got a little uncomfortable sleeping in certain positions, so I woke up a lot more and woke her up, so we went to sleep in separate beds.

“I wasn’t such a fun person to be around when I was eating all that food because I was so exhausted all the time and had no motivation or anything like that.

“So she’s probably been through worse than me in the past six months.”

He added: ‘I’ve gotten some serious stretch marks around my thighs and inner thighs, lower back pain and something I didn’t expect to have an effect was the libido.

“Mentally I was exhausted all the time, the motivation was not there and my mindset changed and became quite negative about things in general.”
