A tragic incident in Hickory Hill has left a community in shock after a child and two dogs died following a violent attack. The heartbreaking incident occurred on Friday at Cedar Run Apartments, where a one-year-old baby was attacked by two large dogs.
Donald Redd, a resident of the complex and a dog owner, expressed his grief and disbelief upon hearing the news. “Two dogs weighing over 70 pounds with a one-year-old baby don’t stand a chance,” Redd said, echoing the sentiments of many community members dealing with the tragedy. “I really don’t understand what made them react like that to a child.”
According policeThe dogs were actively attacking the infant when officers arrived on scene. Despite their efforts to intervene, the situation escalated and officers were forced to shoot and kill both dogs. The infant was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but tragically succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.
Redd, who had seen the dogs with their owner at the apartment complex, was stunned by the incident. “I used to see them walking back and forth to the mailbox and around the complex,” she recalled. “But they didn’t seem that aggressive.”
Neighbors reported Another person was also injured during the attack, although police have not released details about the individual. The cause of the dogs’ sudden attack remains unclear, leaving the community searching for answers. Fox 10 reported.
“If they turn on the child and the owner, it’s not safe for them to be around the child anymore,” Redd said, drawing a comparison to human unpredictability. “It’s almost like a person: you never know what one is going to do from one day to the next. It all depends on how you raise them, their environment and everything else.”
As the community mourns, Redd expressed deep sympathy for the grieving family. “It’s sad,” he said. “I don’t know what the mother is going through, but she must be heartbroken.” REGULATION She contacted the Memphis Police Department to ask if anyone would face charges in connection with the incident. Authorities recommended checking back Monday morning for updates.
