A New Orleans newspaper has gone viral online after making a hilarious reference to the ‘Hawk Tuah’ trend in one of its front-page headlines.
A popular video of a girl giving a very graphic description of her sexual exploits, in which she imitates the sound she makes when spitting, has caused a frenzy on social media over the past week.
Several high-profile figures have followed the trend since the clip surfaced, with UFC legend Conor McGregor even helping fans find the unidentified girl in question.
WWE star Logan Paul also sent social media into a frenzy by performing the ‘Hawk Tuah’ move at his final performance in New York on Friday night.
And not only is she making waves online, but the ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl is even earning subtle mentions in print headlines.
A New Orleans newspaper has gone viral for making a funny reference to the ‘Hawk Tuah’ trend
On Friday, social media user Jono Barnes made a hilarious suggestion to New Orleans newspaper The Times Picayune after the city’s NBA team, the Pelicans, closed a trade for Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks.
Barnes posted on X: ‘The Times Picayune relaxes if tomorrow’s headline isn’t FROM A HAWK TUAH PELICAN.’
And, to their disbelief, it was revealed later that evening that the publication did indeed carry the headline ‘FROM A HAWK TO A PELICAN’ on the cover of its Saturday edition.
Barnes posted a preview image of the cover and wrote, “I’m really crying. They really did it! New Orleans is the greatest city in the world.”
The ‘Hawk Tuah’ girl has now been identified as Haliey Welch from Tennessee after McGregor led the search to find her on social media.
After posting on X that he wanted to find the girl in question, the Irishman followed an account belonging to ‘Haliey Welch’ that was private but had 34,000 followers.
The Times Picayune ran a clever headline about NBA star Dejounte Murray’s trade from the Hawks to the Pelicans after a suggestion from a fan on social media.
Welch’s bio says he is in Tennessee and that his moment of fame came in an interview on the streets of Nashville.
Many other fans on social media have claimed that Welch is the girl in question, with some even sharing photos from her alleged account before it went private.
But McGregor has been accepted as a follower, and Welch is one of the 2,519 people the MMA star follows on his Instagram account.
Welch also began selling products after going viral for the June 19 interview.
He has partnered with Tennessee company Fathead Threads to sell his own line of hats.
“I was given permission to sell these hats after a conversation with Hailey. She will receive a portion of the proceeds from the sales,” Jason Poteete of Fathead Threads shared on Facebook.
The girl ‘Hawk Tuah’, identified as Hailey Welch (right), sells two different types of hats with the phrase written on them, one with a leather patch and one embroidered.
The company posted a photo of Welch autographing two different types of hats, one with a leather patch and one embroidered, which are available for purchase.
Unsigned embroidered caps with the legend ‘Hawk Tuah’ sell for $32.70, while signed caps are on sale for $43.70.
Hats with the leather ‘Hawk Tuah’ patch and an autograph cost $50 and unsigned versions cost $40.
