A naturopathic doctor has revealed a strange secret that she claims can help you live longer – and it’s pretty surprising.
The information was shared in a new video posted on TikTok this week by Dr. Janine Bowringan expert based in Canada who has more than 25 years of experience and clinical research under her belt.
He revealed that breathing less often may be the secret to a longer life.
“The average adult breathes 15 to 20 times a minute, which is actually too much,” Dr. Bowring said.
“If you can slow your breathing down to about five, five breaths per minute, that’s now linked to longevity,” he continued.
The doctor then began to compare human beings with other animals, such as dolphins and whales, which breathe less and live “much longer” than humans.
He said these mammals only breathe three to five per minute.
“While a mouse breathes between 90 and 250 times per minute and only lives two to seven years,” he explained.
The information was shared in a new video posted to TikTok this week by Dr. Janine Bowring, a Canada-based expert who has more than 25 years of clinical research and experience under her belt.
“Stress, as we know, when we are stressed we breathe faster and we know that stress is definitely correlated with a shorter life, so my advice here is to breathe consciously, slowing down your breathing,” the doctor continued. .
“This is one of the reasons why meditation and yoga can be really powerful and help you live longer,” he concluded.
And it looks like Bowring might be on to something here.
According Tierra.comA study conducted on mice by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital last year showed that those kept in areas with lower oxygen levels lived longer.
They reported that mice that were exposed to 11 percent oxygen levels lived “50 percent longer” compared to their counterparts that were maintained on 21 percent oxygen levels.
“The theory is that less oxygen reduces cellular damage and stimulates cells to clean up and recycle damaged components more efficiently, thereby slowing the aging process,” the outlet wrote.
However, the study has not been replicated in humans, so it is unclear how it would affect us.
“It is premature to speculate on the implications of these findings for human aging,” pulmonologist Dr. Roger Roberts, the study’s principal investigator, told the outlet.

“But there are several interesting clues from epidemiological research that living at high altitude, where there is a lower concentration of oxygen, could increase average life expectancy and reduce the burden of age-related diseases,” Dr. Roberts continued.
Breathing less isn’t the only naturopathic advice Dr. Bowring has shared with viewers in recent months.
In December, she shared three tips to help you go to the bathroom every morning.
The first tip he gave to stimulate bowel movements was to drink something hot as soon as you woke up in the morning.
“This will help stimulate the colon to release its contents,” Dr. Bowring explained.
His last two tips had to do with circadian rhythm.
